Round 4 Feature Match: Black Bend vs. Dog King

The last coverage match of Round 4 is matching Dog King against Black Bend (Zextra)! This match was recorded by RobotBowtie in order to better capture some of the duel details, and written coverage has been provided by me.

Dog King is playing Nordics, while Black Bend is playing Dark Worlds.

Black triumphs in Rock, Paper, Scissors and takes the option of going first in this duel!

Game 1

He begins with Allure of Darkness, drawing 2 cards from his Deck and then banishing Sillva, Warlord of Dark World from his hand. He then Normal Summons Tour Guide to the Underworld and activates its effect to Special Summon Sangan from his Deck. He Overlays both monsters to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines in Defense, and sets 2 to the backrow.

Dog activates Heavy Storm, successfully blowing Mirror Force and Book of Moon from the field. He ends with a backrow.

When Black draws to 4 in hand, Dog flips his Trap Dustshoot! Checking Black's hand, he sends Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World to the Deck. Black switches Zenmaines to Attack Position and attacks directly! Upon taking the damage, Dog drops Gorz, Emissary of Darkness, which Special Summons a Token with 1500 ATK!

(Dog LP: 6500)

Dog attacks Zenmaines with Gorz, and Black detaches one of its Materials to negate Zenmaines' destruction. Dog rams Zenmaines with his Emissary Token, destroying it although Zenmaines once again prevents its destruction by giving up a Material instead. Dog Sets a monster and 2 backrow. During the End Phase, Zenmaines targets and destroys Dog's Mystical Space Typhoon.

(Black LP: 6800)

Black activates Dark Hole, destroying all monsters on the Field, including the facedown Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts! Black sets a card to the backrow before activating Dragged Down Into the Grave. Both players have only one card in their respective hands. Dog discards Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts, and Black discards Snoww, Unlight of Dark World. They each draw a card from Dragged's effect, and Snoww's effect allows Black to search out Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World. Black Sets another backrow.

Dog Normal Summons Sangan and attacks directly. He sets the last card in hand to the backrow.

(Black LP: 5800)

Black flips his facedown Dark World Lightning, targeting the oldest of Dog's backrows, but Dog chains Gleipnir, the Fetters of Fenrir, searching his Deck for Tanngnjostr of the Nordic Beasts. Because the targeted card was not destroyed, Black doesn't discard, and he insteads sets a fresh card to the backrow.

Dog Normal Summons Tour Guide, Special Summoning another copy from his Deck, but Black activates Torrential Tribute, destroying all his monsters! Sangan's effect searches Ryko, Lightsworn Beast, and Dog ends his turn.

Black activates The Gates to Dark World and activates its effect, banishing Snoww from his Graveyard to discard Grapha and draw a card. Grapha's effect destroys Dog's Solemn Warning, which turns out to be exactly what Black needs! He flips Return From the Different Dimension, paying half his Life Points to Special Summons his banished Snoww and Sillva! He bounces Sillva to his hand to Special Summon Grapha from his Graveyard! Then he activates a new Gates to Dark World and activates its effect, banishing Sangan to discard Sillva and draw 1, and Sillva's effect Special Summons itself from the Graveyard, giving Black enough ATK to attack for game!

After an exciting back-and-forth of counter plays, Black's Dark Worlds manage to overcome Dog's Nordics! Dog will be going first in Game 2!

Game 2

Dog opens with Thunder King Rai-Oh and a Set card.

Black Sets 2 to the backrow and ends.

Dog activates Heavy Storm, blowing his own Book of Moon off the field alongside Black's Skill Drain and Solemn Warning. He then Normal Summons Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts, and both monsters attack directly! He ends with a backrow.

(Black LP: 4500)

Black activates Dark Hole to destroy both of Dog's monsters, and Normal Summons Fabled Raven, activating its effect and discarding Snoww, Unlight of Dark World, increasing Raven's Level by 1 and its ATK by 400 until the End Phase. Snoww's effect searches Grapha, and he Sets a backrow. He then activates Dragged Down Into the Grave. Grapha is his only card in hand, so he discards that, and chooses to send Dog's Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts. Both players draw 1, and Grapha's effect targets Dog's backrow, but he chains with Gleipnir, searching Tanngnjostr of the Nordic Beasts. Raven attacks directly, and Black ends.

(Dog LP: 6300)

Dog Normal Summons Guldfaxe and attacks Raven.

(Black LP: 4200)

Black passes.

Guldfaxe attacks directly.

(Black LP: 2600)

Black Sets a monster.

Dog also Sets a monster, and Guldfaxe defeats the Set Broww, Huntsman of Dark World.

Black activates his Field Spell The Gates to Dark World, and activates its effect, banishing Snoww to discard Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World and draw 1. Goldd's effect activates, but Dog counters with Debunk, negating the effect and banishing Goldd!

Dog Normal Summons Tanngnjostr, and Synchs with Guldfaxe for Ancient Sacred Wyvern! Due to an LP difference of 3700, its ATK rises to 5800, but Black flips Skill Drain, paying 1000 LP to neutralize this effect! Dog Flip Summons his Super-Nimble Mega Hamster, and attacks directly with Hamster, but Black flips his Mirror Force, wiping Dog's field clean of monsters and saving himself!

(Black LP: 1600)

Black banishes his Broww for Gates' effect and discard Gorz from his hand to draw 1. He sets a backrow.

But it's useless as Dog Normal Summons Thunder King Rai-Oh, and its direct attack wins the game!

Dog's persistent attacks keeps Black's Dark Worlds from gaining any momentum, winning him the second game! The third game is up ahead, though, and Black will be going first! Who will emerge triumphant in this round?!

Game 3

Black Normal Summons Fabled Raven, activating its effect to discard Snoww, Unlight of Dark World. Snoww's effect searches out Grapha, and he Sets 2 to the backrow.

Dog Sets a monster and 3 cards to the Spell and Trap Card Zone.

Black pushes forward, activating Heavy Storm from his hand! The great gust of wind blows away Dog's Debunk, Solemn Warning, and Mirror Force, as well as his own Mirror Force and Mystical Space Typhoon! He then activates The Gates to Dark World, and banishes Snoww from his Graveyard to discard Grapha and draw a card. Grapha's effect then destroys Dog's facedown Tanngnjostr. He Normal Summons Snoww and bounces it to his hand to Special Summon Grapha from his Graveyard. Dog is all but ready to concede the duel at this point, as he takes 2 direct attacks!

(Dog LP: 3400)

Dog Normal Summons Tour Guide, Special Summoning another from his Deck. He Overlays both Tour Guides to Xyz Summon Number 17: Leviathan Dragon, and detaches a Tour to boost its ATK by 500. Leviathan attacks Fabled Raven, and Dog ends.

(Black LP: 7100)

Black Normal Summons Snoww, Unlight of Dark World. Grapha takes out Leviathan, but Dog activates the effect of Tanngnjostr of the Nordic Beasts from his hand, Special Summoning it in Defense to weather the attack from Snoww. When Snoww defeats the black goat, Dog drops another one from his hand! His hand may be empty now, but he has a fighting chance.

(Dog LP: 2900)

Dog switches Tanngnjostr to Attack Position, activating its effect to Special Summon Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts from his Deck, and he Synchs his two monsters for Black Rose Dragon! Black Rose Dragon's effect destroys all cards on the field, leaving him open to Normal Summon Thunder King Rai-Oh from his hand and attack directly!

(Black LP: 5200)

Black passes.

Dog topdecks Tour Guide of the Underworld! He Normal Summons it and Special Summons Sangan from his Deck. He then Overlays his two Level 3 Fiends to Xyz Summon Leviair, the Sea Dragon! By detaching Sangan, he Special Summons Black's banished Snoww, and his monsters strike for game and match!

Note: Black revealed that he had a Snoww in his hand, and could have revived Grapha, although its Summon would have been negated by Rai-Oh. This cost him the game, as Dog was topdecking at the time, and Rai-Oh's 1900 ATK enabled the win.

Dog King's Nordics manage to make terrific comebacks to take down Black Bend's Dark Worlds! Great games!
